Golden Spin Wins At The Valley

Great result for us with Golden Spin scoring in great style at Moonee Valley last night. We thought he may be just a little short on condition but the had other plans and enjoyed a good run right on the high speed set up in front, things got a little tight on the corner but the colt dived through the gap and kept coming to score a top win. Jordan Childs rode the horse superbly and was awarded Ride Of The Night by the commentators! A real thrill for all that made it to the Valley and I’m sure those who watched. No, I didn’t back him, thought he would need the run, lectured myself all the way home! Been in the game over 40 years, obviously a very slow learner!

There is a nice race over 1400m for 3 and 4 year olds on New Years Day at Flemington, could be a good option. You would have received the Owners email with the replay in it, if you want a DVD let Fay know or email me and we will send one to you.
Slickpix do the photos of the night : www.slickpixvic.com.au or call 9354 5754 the photos will be up now on the website and mention our syndicate for the discount.

In the wash up very proud of this little colt, not sure how far he will go but I know one thing, never had a horse who tries as hard to get to the line, maybe one who won a couple of Cox Plates!

Medaglia D’Oro x Turnstiles Colt

We are delighted to inform you that we have a wonderful opportunity to add another young horse to our current syndicates. The new colt is a two year old ready to run by Medaglia D’ Oro and trainer by Hall Of Fame Champion trainer Lee Freedman.

This colt has taken my eye over the past few months working at Flemington and I have overheard Lee talk quite positively about the horse.

I made further enquiries and discovered that 10% could be purchased. I asked Lee to put the share on hold while we did some sums and we have come up with the following proposal.

As you know we replaced Martina Of Sydney with a 10% purchase of Litosa Joy September 2014, the share cost was $5,000 plus insurance. The cost was absorbed then but still needs to be covered-this is a good time to do so.

So in summary, to cover the cost of the two horses (purchase, training to June 2016 and insurance of the new colt) and Litosa Joy, the outlays are $195 per member for the colt and $55 for Litosa Joy for a total of $250.

You can pay this in two ways-$250 now or $150 now and $100 at the end of June 2015 when your final instalment is due. Those members who have paid the full amount at the start of the syndicates last year of $1700 pay $250.

To ensure fairness we do need everyone to agree to these costs. And to take up the opportunity of the new colt we have to decide quickly or we will miss him. Please indicate your agreement by email or phone Fay: 0418 451 590

As noted above our new colt is by the Darley stallion Medaglia D’ Oro from Turnstiles by Anabaa. It is a very strong pedigree, we have the pedigree displayed for you.

The colts and fillies by Medaglia ‘D Oro are racing in Australia and the oldest stock are 3 years. Lee Freedman knows  a bit about the breed and has the following racing by Medaglia ‘D Oro :

Java: 5 starts- 4 wins: Kilmore-Mornington-Sandown- Sandown last win was over Petrology, winner of the Sandown Guineas and last start Java went to Group 1 level and ran 4th beaten 3.15 L to Dissident in the Orr Stakes.

Matilija: Filly owned by Godolphin, 2 starts for 2 wins at Moonee Valley in Feb. 2015.

Gai Waterhouse has the colt by Medaglia ‘D Oro called Vancouver, he has had 2 starts in Sydney for 2 brilliant wins and is 2nd fav for the Golden Slipper.

Sit back and have a look at this colt, you will be impressed, as we caught up with him this morning at Flemington.

RIP Roxanne Of Sydney

Today we sadly farewelled our dear mare Roxanne of Sydney. She was fatally injured during the 3rd race at Sandown. She damaged her back off side leg prior to the home turn, a severe injury and she sadly could not be saved. Roxy was euthanised by the club vet on the scene.

The news has devastated our membership and our thoughts go out to Cindy and all her team, especially Roxy’s strapper Clare. Mark Read who owned Roxy is also in our thoughts.

A mare who in her short time gave us so much and for that we are deeply indebted.

John Sadler parts with Malua Racing

Important letter from John Sadler. Our position is that Mr. Sommerville and Human League will go with John and the new filly we are proposing to take a share in the new BMRC for the next 2 years will also go with John Sadler.

Our intention is to have 3 horses with John at Aquanita at Caulfield. We have enjoyed our time with Troy Corstens and Malua and believe they have given us a very professional service over the past 2 years. We wish Troy every success for the future.

Bryan Martin

Dear Owner

Following my recent return to training and Troy’s decision to train in his own right we felt it was important to review the future direction of Malua.  Both Troy and I discussed what was in the interests of the owners and horses, as well as the business.

I am keen to continue to train and Troy to establish himself as a trainer and to build the Malua brand.   Troy has offered and I have accepted that he will buy my shares in the company effective June 1st.   From that date I will move to Caulfield and train under the Aquanita banner.   In the interim it will be business as usual as we strive for winners on behalf of you all.

We have discussed the team and recognized as far as possible the interests of your horse, you as an owner and the relationships that have developed over the last three and half years. This has resulted in us collectively making recommendations to you on the training of your horse. The process has been very amicable and co-operative and Troy and I remain close friends.

I am very proud to have been associated with Malua and the friendships I have made with Troy and the staff.  I would like to thank you for your continued support and I look forward to the new challenges ahead.

This from trainer Cindy Alderson:

Good Afternoon,

For the reasons previously mentioned the distance suits Roxanne of Sydney far better at Sandown and whilst she has drawn an awkward gate which will necessitate her going back in the field I think that she has a better chance of having a run that will bring her forward more satisfactorily and will be more to her liking if she goes to Sandown on Saturday as opposed to Cranbourne.  The race at Cranbourne on Thursday, whilst it was within her scope was not an easy option and she was going to be pushed to run the mile and it would have taken too much out of her to run the mile first up.  She may also get too keen and take too much out of herself so for those reasons we have opted for the race at Sandown on Saturday.  I think it is a pretty tough option for her and I think that she would be better suited against these mares over 2000m.  If there is enough speed and they run along it suits horses finishing on from back in the field and she certainly could be in this race especially if there is any rain around.  It would be each way at best but if those other options come into play then a better run than that it wouldn’t surprise me at all as she has certainly in good form and gives us every indication that she will run very well at her next start.

Regards,

Cindy Alderson
