Roxanne of Sydney – Post-race report

Roxanne Of Sydney: Another very good effort from this mare, she enjoyed a good run back on the rail most of the trip, D.Dunn the rider, told Cindy Roxy did pull fairly hard for a portion of the race which took the sting out of her finish late. When she learns to switch off completely she will gain a better turn of foot which would have been handy on the turn when she got into clear air. She got the margin back to around a length and a half and certainly was not stopping through the line. The experiment of going out to 2000m plus worked and she will get the longer trip next preparation.

Roxy has now had 2 trials and 5 races as well as going to the races on 2 other occasions and has been saddled up in the yard and another occasion got to the barrier but did not run. She has had a couple of long trips away Sale and Bendigo, these have been very good learning curves for the horse and she has come a long way this prep.

I think it may be spelling time for her from the chat I had with Cindy last night but we will confirm that situation later today. The time for her race was almost 1.5 seconds quicker than the maiden same distance and both races were won from the front. Higgins on the leader was able to dictate and control the pace. He was not on our mare due to the fact we were originally entered for 2 races on the card, the race she ran in and the 1600m and he had taken an earlier booking. It was not the weight issue as it turns out. I had no problem with Dunn’s ride.

Roxanne of Sydney Update

Good Afternoon,

After Roxy’s run at Sale I decided to get the vet to have a look at her and he felt that her knees were giving her a bit of trouble. He has given her some treatment with anti-inflammatories and hopefully that will do the trick. Her work this morning was excellent, I put the tongue tie on which will go on her race day gear and she pulled up really well and was hardly blowing at all and appears to be in great order. Brian felt it gave her much better aptitude during her work and she wasn’t throwing her head or trying to over race or do anything silly. All things considered it was great work and I will be accepting with her for Cranbourne on Sunday.

Regards,

Cindy Alderson

Trainer’s Report on Roxy

Trainer of Roxanne of Sydney, Cindy Alderson has posted the following report on her 4th place yesterday:

Roxanne of Sydney ran a really nice bold race yesterday. A month between runs probably didn’t work to her advantage but I thought that she stuck to her task pretty well. It was a Showcase race in a much higher grade than she had been competing against and was against the males as well and I thought her effort under those circumstances was pretty good. She seems to have come through the race quite well and I am planning on giving her another start, possibly at Cranbourne on Sunday week provided she continues to please me over the remainder of the coming week.

Regards,

Cindy Alderson

Well, Roxanne ran 4th yesterday at Sale, and Bryan made the long trek there.  Not many punters, and only a single lonely bookie!

"What, only 8 of you turned up today? Didn't you think I would run!?"
