Mr Sommerville Update – 29 Aug

Mr Sommerville :
I watched this bloke have a trot and canter up the pro-ride at Ballarat this morning. He looks tremendous within himself. He will spend another 4-5 weeks up here before coming down to Flemington and pumping him right along!

Kind Regards,
Troy Corstens

Prior: Scratched from last Sunday at Seymour due to soft track, all good and heading to Geelong this Friday for 1300m maiden. Number 18 on the ballot of 60, they run 12 and 4 emergencies, think he should get in.

At our recent function a Cuppa With Pete, we raised $600 from our raffle to give to Peter Moody for his local sports club and got the following reply, thank you all for your support:

Dear Bryan,

My name is Wayne Huglin and I am president of the South Belgrave Football Club. You are probably aware that Peter Moody is both a sponsor and a supporter of our club. SBFC is a community club and as such is punching above its weight , entering the second week of EFL Division 4 finals we have all three senior teams in action. Secret to our vitality is great local support from good people like ‘Moods’ and here in lies the reason for this email. ( I bet you thought we were going to ‘hit you up!! )

Last Thursday night Pete , as per usual ,came up to the club. He handed me an envelope with cash and declared any ‘Thank You’ (s) needed to go to Bryan Martin. Coming into finals we have the inevitable bills for extra medical supplies and trainers ( not your kind) and that envelope was put to very good use by our treasurer. Thanks again to both Pete and your good self , the gesture is much appreciated.

Best regards,
Wayne Huglin

Prior Seymour Run Updates

4pm AEST

Just got off the phone to John Sadler regarding Prior and I informed him the track was a heavy 8 already for Sunday and he said if that is the case we won’t be going.
John said Glen Boss rode the horse work this morning and really likes him, good news, Bossy very good judge. John spoke to Glen regarding a run on Sunday and Boss said it would be a shame to waste him on a heavy track.
Positive feedback and John made comment that the penny is starting to drop with Prior so we will wait and see.
They will enter the horse everywhere next week and try and get suitable ground.
Stay tuned.

Update: 4:20pm

Latest word on Prior – spoke with Sadler again and we have locked in the 1300m maiden at Geelong next Friday 31st Aug. He reckons Boss would come and ride so happy about that and we are assured of a good track on the all weather surface.

Prior set for a run at Seymour… or not.

Prior set for his first run for the stable and BMRC this Sunday at Seymour. Track is rated a slow 7 and the concern will be if we get more rain and there is a downgrade of the track, at this stage he is running but that could very well change. Waiting on the Malua stable report but I did have a good chat with John Sadler yesterday and he was saying many of the horses through the Lloyd Williams sales are quite keen and want to over race when you purchase and the initial game plan is to get them to settle in their work. The stable purchased Henwood and had the same problem but they have got him settled now and he has won 2 of 3 for the stable, he is a coming city winner.
Prior will be a work in progress and John believes this time next year we will have a city class horse.

Prior Update Aug 22

Prior: Stable have made the decision to run the horse at Seymour in a 1300m this coming Sunday. Speaking with Troy this morning he says the horse worked very strongly at Flemington this morning and is set to go. There was a suggestion Prior would trial Friday. Stable had 3 winners on the weekend. We should have a stable report next 24 hours. He was entered for 2 races this Sunday, the 1300m is the chosen race.
There are 92 entries for the maiden. This horse has prizemoney from his 2nd at Ballarat earlier in the year and should get a run. Acceptances Thursday morning.

Peter Moody Breakfast Report

Over 100 members and guests enjoyed a great morning at the Caulfield Tabaret Elms Room with Peter Moody.
Billed as our “ Cuppa With Pete” we were able to share the wonderful stories of the master trainer along the amazing road of training that he has enjoyed over the past decade. Peter Moody is like no other when it comes to horse training and general philosophy of life.
He revealed many tales that have not been told and took us all on the real story of Black Caviar and the Royal Ascot adventure. On stage with Bryan Martin for over an hour, Peter had us enthralled with his knock about humour and passion of the racing game.
Without doubt it was one of the best functions we have had the pleasure to organise for BMRC and the mark of the man was shown as he stayed on for an extra hour to sign photos and posters.
BMRC are deeply indebited to Peter for his time along with our great sponsors and partners in : Luxbet, Ambassador Travel, Marriott Hotel Group, Dimattina Group, Beauty Mate and Yalumba Wines.
We will be having more racing functions into the year and we would love you to join us.
